General Summary

Are you passionate about helping youth and families succeed in their communities? As a Youth Assistance Caseworker I, you’ll provide critical support to children and families through prevention and early intervention services. You’ll collaborate with schools, law enforcement, community organizations, and volunteers to identify needs, connect families with resources, and develop programs that reduce risk factors for delinquency, abuse, and neglect. This role combines outreach, case coordination, and community engagement to make a lasting, positive impact across Oakland County.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct interviews with youth, families, and community members to gather and assess background information.
  • Use validated assessment tools to identify behavioral or emotional needs and recommend appropriate treatment options.
  • Prepare reports, progress summaries, and statistical data to document case activity and outcomes.
  • Deliver presentations, conduct community needs assessments, and participate in prevention programming.
  • Recruit, train, and collaborate with volunteers and community groups to support Youth Assistance programs.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

  1. Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in psychology, social work, guidance and counseling, public relations or closely related area;

    AND

  2. Have had one (1) year full-time casework experience, involving establishing, coordinating and facilitating community based programs.

    Volunteer organizational experience may be substituted for the casework experience specified above.

  3. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

  4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment physical established for this class.

  5. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.

Special Requirements

  1. Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
  2. Employees of this classification may be required to provide their own vehicle for personal transportation. Employees who use their own vehicle for County purposes are eligible to receive mileage reimbursement.

 

Pay Range

USD $60,999.00 - USD $71,976.00 /Yr.
