This is an appointed position within Oakland County.

General Summary

Are you interested in using your investigative and analytical skills to help shape fair sentencing decisions? As a Probation Investigator with the Oakland County District Court, you will interview individuals, review case histories, and prepare detailed reports that directly inform judicial decisions. Your work ensures the Court has accurate, thorough information when determining treatment plans and sentencing, making this role both challenging and impactful.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Interview individuals convicted of misdemeanor crimes to gather personal, social, and criminal history information.
  • Investigate case backgrounds and evaluate risk factors to provide an accurate picture of each defendant.
  • Prepare pre-sentence investigation reports and alcohol assessment reports with clear recommendations.
  • Develop treatment plans and sentencing recommendations to assist judges in making informed decisions.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Desirable Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Human Resource Development, or closely related field.
  2. Possess a certification as an Assessment Referral Management Specialist (ARMS) and/or Certified Addictions Counselor (C.A.C.).
  3. Complete forty (40) Continuing Education Units as mandated by the State within two (2) years of the hiring date.
  4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

Special Requirements

Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Maintain certification as mandated by the State.

Pay Range

USD $21.75 - USD $25.38 /Hr.
