General Summary

Are you passionate about inclusion, cultural diversity, and making newcomers feel at home? Oakland County is looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Office Support Clerk supporting the Welcome Oakland initiative. In this vital entry-level role, you’ll help lay the foundation for meaningful community engagement by supporting efforts that connect immigrants and international residents with resources and opportunities.

 

This is a part-time position.


What You’ll Do:

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and clerical support to the Welcome Oakland Coordinator and related initiatives.
  • Work with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds in a welcoming, respectful manner.
  • Manage data entry and document preparation using Microsoft Office and department-specific software.
  • Maintain accurate records, create professional communications, and help coordinate logistics for meetings and events with immigrant communities and international partners.
  • Use sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information, applying on-the-job knowledge to help resolve routine issues.
  • Support outreach efforts and public engagement activities in collaboration with immigrant community leaders and local organizations.

Great If You Have:

 

  • Multilingual ability, especially in commonly spoken languages among Oakland County immigrant communities (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Bengali, Ukrainian, etc.).
  • Experience working or volunteering with immigrant, refugee, or international communities in a support, outreach, or administrative capacity.
  • Familiarity with immigration processes, cultural adjustment challenges, or community integration programs.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills—the ability to interact with people from various backgrounds with empathy, respect, and clarity.
  • Event coordination or logistics experience, particularly related to community events, public meetings, or outreach efforts.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles and how they apply to public service.
  • Basic social media or digital communications skills, such as helping manage community updates or informational posts.
  • Experience using translation or interpretation services (or having served as a liaison in a multilingual setting).
  • Comfort with confidential or sensitive information, particularly when working with vulnerable populations.
  • A personal connection to immigration, international relocation, or cross-cultural environments (e.g., immigrant background, international student experience, Peace Corps, etc.).

Required Minimum Qualifications

What you'll need:

At the time of application, applicants must:

 

1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) Test.
 
2. Have had at least six (6) months of full-time clerical work experience.

 

 

Pay Range

USD $16.87 - USD $22.83 /Hr.
