General Summary

This position is assigned to the radio team and provides skilled preventive maintenance and repair on the County’s digital communications systems: 700/800 MHz Motorola P25 simulcast sub-system of Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) and 420 MHz MotoTrbo radio communications system. Provides repair and maintenance of pager and fire hall alerting systems. Attend training sessions on repair and maintenance of digital radio systems. Maintains knowledge of software used by the unit and evaluates available upgrades. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

 

1. a. Possess an Associate’s degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with a major in Physics, Electronics Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a closely related area.
 
b. Have had at least three (3) years of full-time professional work experience in the installation, configuration, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of radio systems and components; OR
 
2. a. Must be a high school graduate, or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test.
 
b. Have had at least five (5) years of full-time professional work experience in the installation, configuration, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of radio systems and components.
 
3. Possess a valid General Radiotelephone Operators license.
 
NOTE: Employees without the required General Radiotelephone at time of application must obtain it by the end of the six-month probationary period.
 
4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeurs license.

Special Requirements

1. Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur’s license.
 
2. Must pass a background check performed by the County or other appropriate agencies as required.

Pay Range

USD $66,849.00 - USD $89,566.00 /Yr.
