Announcement Information

This position is a grant-funded position and is represented by the UAW.

General Summary

Under limited supervision, provides lactation management services to pregnant and breastfeeding clients of the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program. Lactation specialists are responsible for providing WIC clients with accurate and quality knowledge of breastfeeding practices. Provides support, encouragement and guidance on common concerns and issues to clients throughout their breastfeeding experience. Receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine contact during their breastfeeding experience with all assigned clients including community visits at hospitals, clinics and human service agencies. Maintains accurate documentation of contact with clients. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

 

1. Must be a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED).
 
2. Have had six (6) months experience breastfeeding.
 
3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
 
4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.

Special Requirements

1. Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
 
2. Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.

Pay Range

USD $35,302.00 - USD $47,777.00 /Yr.
