General Summary

Performs specialized complex clerical duties in Children’s Village relative to the processing of juveniles into Children’s Village. These duties include gathering information from juveniles, transporters, police agencies, parents and/or guardians, and legal documents in order to complete admission paperwork; and photographing and fingerprinting all juveniles admitted to the facility. Completes all data input as it relates to admissions and updates resident information as needed. Observes the behavior and physical condition of juveniles during the intake process and alerts the on-duty supervisor of any concerns. Notifies appropriate staff when medical and/or clinical follow-up are needed. Completes designated detention screening tool, as needed. Assists in processing the release of juveniles to other authorities, parents and/or guardians. Processes requests from other counties/agencies to place juveniles in Children's Village upon administrative approval. Works in close proximity to juveniles who may be physically and/or verbally aggressive and juveniles who may be victims of abuse and neglect. Assigned work hours may vary. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, applicants must:

 

1. a. Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General
Educational Development Test.

b. Have had two (2) years of responsible full-time clerical work experience; OR
 
2. a. Possess an Associate’s degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or
university with a major in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology or closely related field of study.

b. Have had one (1) year of responsible full-time clerical work experience.
 
3. Have not been convicted of a violation of criminal law. (Criminal law generally includes all offenses except traffic law, conservation law and liquor law. Generally, conviction for a violation of criminal law is automatically disqualifying.)

Special Requirements

  1. Must have normal hearing (or hearing corrected to normal) in each ear and normal color vision.
  2. Must submit to immunizations as requested by the Department of Health & Human Services and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
  3. Before beginning employment candidates will be required to provide Children’s Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services (previously called Family Independence Agency) that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children’s Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974.

    Applicants for positions at Children’s Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:
    1. Child Abuse or Neglect
    2. A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.

Pay Range

USD $41,075.00 - USD $54,513.00 /Yr.
