General Summary

Performs therapeutic counseling for youth residing at Children's Village. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with other professional staff by providing input and planning treatment services, including coordinating psychiatric care. Provides crisis intervention services and provides/directs intensive interventions and special precaution statuses. Administers various psychological tests/screening instruments and interprets/utilizes results in treatment planning. Conducts individual, group and family therapy sessions for youth and parents in conjunction with treatment plans. May testify in court regarding treatment provided and offer recommendations, as needed. Participates in on-call rotation involving weekends and evening hours. Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, all applicants must:

  1. Have a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
  2. Have had one (1) year of full-time casework and/or treatment experience involving the development and delivery of juvenile treatment services.
  3. From the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs: Possess a Temporary Limited License as a Psychologist, OR a limited license as a master’s level Social Worker OR a limited license as a Counselor.
  4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

Special Requirements

  1. Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  2. Must maintain a temporary limited license as a Psychologist, or limited license as a Social Worker, or Counselor from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
  3. Must submit to immunizations as requested by the Department of Health & Human Services and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
  4. Before beginning employment, candidates will be required to provide Children’s Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect. In addition, applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children’s Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974.


Applicants for positions at Children’s Village will not be considered if they have been convicted of either of the following:


(a) Child Abuse or Neglect.
(b) A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire.
