General Summary

Provides a variety of maintenance and repair duties important to the operation of County sanitary sewer, water, storm drain and/or lake level control systems, equipment, and structures. Performs inspections to keep assigned systems functional, and to evaluate new construction projects for conformance with standards. Keeps daily records of activities. Operates a variety of machinery, including vactor, backhoe, dump truck and Mini Excavator. Performs a variety of semi-skilled trade work such as carpentry, grounds maintenance, and/or plumbing. Answers complaints according to policy and direction and makes emergency repairs. Is responsible for safe work procedures. Duties may involve hazardous working conditions common to below ground and/or confined space. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.Employees of this classification are required to be available for operational problems, equipment emergencies, widespread storms, power outages and other operations and maintenance emergencies as deemed necessary by management after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays. Also, employees in this classification are required to be on assigned On-Call and/or On-Call alternate, as required by management.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possess a high school diploma or have completed the state requirements for a GED certificate.
  2. Have one (1) year of full-time experience in sewer and/or water system maintenance.
  3. Possess a valid motor vehicle Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group "A" designation. Employees are required to possess additional endorsements when assigned to the following units:
    1. Sewer Maintenance “N” endorsement with air brakes
    2. Const Drain Maint “N” endorsement with air brakes
    3. Water Resource Recovery None
    4. Water Maintenance Air brakes endorsement
    5. Systems Control None
    6. Retention Basins None
    7. Cross Connection None
    8. Pump Maintenance “N” endorsement with air brakes
  4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  5. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.

Special Requirements

Must maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as specified under required minimum qualifications, if required by unit assignment.

USD $48,777.00 - USD $60,038.00 /Yr.
