Announcement Information

This is a part-time non-eligible position limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

 

Applicants must be at least 16 years old by July 1st, 2025.

 

Applicants will be registered for a 3-day training in May, upon successful completion of the Ellis examination and onboarding, Lifeguards will be scheduled for work June – August and will receive a $300 hiring bonus.  Applicants who are not able to complete the exam may be offered other positions at Red Oaks Waterpark.     

General Summary

Under limited supervision, maintain and ensure a safe swimming environment at Oakland County water parks using established techniques. (Techniques to be taught and practiced at initial and weekly in-service training). Supervises swimming and water activities and enforces safety rules. Responds to emergency situations. Assist with the general maintenance and cleaning of water parks.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 16 years old.
  2. Must pass the mandatory unpaid International Lifeguard Training Program that includes passing a three-part exam: physical condition, written and a hands-on practical.

    NOTE:
    The parks' pre-employment swim test and the International Lifeguard Training Program are provided free by the Oakland County Parks. Training consists of two weekends, generally in April or May. Applicants must attend all training and pass a written and practical test. Successful completion of training does not guarantee employment with Oakland County Parks and Recreation.

  3. Must be proficient in and able to communicate effectively and verbally in the English language.
  4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS: To test-out at the end of class a candidate must:

  • Meet the prerequisite and physical requirements outlined above.
  • Attend all classes for the session.
  • Practical test-out: Must complete practical tests on CPR, First Aid, Spinals, Rapids and Saves.
  • Written test-out: Pass ILTP written examination with 80% or better.

USD $17.00 - USD $17.00 /Hr.
