EQUALIZATION APPRAISER AIDE - WITHIN REAL PROPERTY APPRAISALS UNIT

General Summary

Under the supervision of a certified assessor or personal property auditor, performs appraisals on the less complex real and personal property within Oakland County. Defends and/or assists in defending assessments before state and local tax review boards and acts as assessor for selected assessing districts. Within the Real Property Appraisals Unit, performs on-site inspections of land and buildings, confers with property owners and other relevant parties, analyzes data gathered, and prepares appraisal data for data processing input. Within the Personal Property Unit, assigns an appraisal value to the personal property of smaller and/or less complicated individual businesses, partnerships and corporations through the auditing and checking of pertinent financial records. Audits and checks personal property statements filed by taxpayers for accuracy and completeness, and compares statements of individuals, partnerships, and corporations for equalizing tax valuation purposes. Within the Standards Unit, is responsible for helping to maintain accurate records related to Special Act and TIF District properties. Assists in examining Tax Abatement Applications, support documents, and TIF District Plans for accuracy. Helps to advise local government units of proper procedures related to Special Act parcels. Utilizes current department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

WITHIN REAL PROPERTY APPRAISALS UNIT


1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Test.

 

2. a. Have had six (6) months of full-time work experience in appraising real property in the assessing field, equalization field, construction trade field, fee appraising, mortgage processing, real estate profession, property management or building management OR have had six (6) months of full-time work experience using the BS&A Appraisal software system; OR
b. Possess a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) Certificate or higher certification, from the Michigan State Tax Commission.

 

3. Possess a valid driver’s or chauffeur’s license.

 

 

Special Requirements

1. Must maintain a valid driver's or chauffeur's license.
2. Must maintain certification of a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) Certification, or higher from the Michigan State Tax Commission within one (1) year in order to progress to the Equalization Appraiser I – Certified.

Pay Range

USD $47,787.00 - USD $64,025.00 /Yr.
