General Summary

Under limited supervision, performs preliminary and re-test hearing and/or vision screening at various schools and clinic sites throughout Oakland County to detect vision or hearing abnormalities of children and adults. Interprets and records test results and performs any necessary follow up by letter, phone or conferences. Travels to various clinic sites and schools throughout Oakland County. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Some of the things you will be doing:
The Public Health Technician is responsible for performing hearing or vision screening at various schools and clinic sites throughout Oakland County to detect hearing or vision abnormalities in children. You will interpret and record test results and perform any necessary follow-ups.

Various locations in Oakland County.
 
What do you need?
Applicants must thoroughly document previous work or volunteer experience with preschool, elementary, middle, and high school-aged children (in school, church, daycare/school-age care, extracurricular clubs, or sports settings) in the employment section of the application. Please know that volunteer work will be reviewed and counts as experience!

Special Requirements

1. The employee of this class must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
 
2. Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest x-rays at County expense.
 
3. Must pass the criminal background check prior to employment.
 
4. Applicants who don’t currently possess a certificate of completion of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Comprehensive Hearing and/or Vision training course must successfully complete the first available MDHHS comprehensive training course after hire and any additional MDHHS approved training that occurs prior to completing the comprehensive training course.

Pay Range

USD $20.83 - USD $27.91 /Hr.
