General Summary

The social worker will be responsible for working with public defender’s office attorneys and their clients to develop individualized alternative sentencing plans that show how clients’ and community needs are better served in the community, rather than in jail or prison. These plans will be developed by assessing client needs, identifying local resources for rehabilitation, treatment, and recovery, and making appropriate referrals to those community resources. May serve as a mitigation specialist for “life without parole” cases if qualified and directed by the Chief Public Defender. May provide assistance to attorneys on the Oakland County appointed attorney roster if directed by the Chief Public Defender. Social workers will also be responsible for entering data in any case management information system and completing all other documentation practices of the public defender’s office as needed.

Required Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be a licensed master’s social worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan and maintain that license for the duration of employment.
2. Have two (2) years of full-time casework experience as a Social Worker.

USD $70,191.00 - USD $94,044.00 /Yr.
